-          A half step is the closest distance between two pitches in the music we study for this course

-          Movement on the keyboard from any white key to an adjacent black key is a half step.

-          Movement between the white keys E, F and B, C is a half step (since there is no black key between these two notes)

-          A whole step is the combination of two half steps (e.g. C natural, up to D natural, is a whole step)
