Music Theory QuickThink: 

-          Major Triads or Dominant Seventh chords can have their 5th raised or lowered to create an “altered 5th chord”

-          If the 5th is raised by one half step, it is marked as +5 or #5 or aug5  ... Example  C+5 , or C7(+5)

-          If the 5th is lowered by one half step, it is marked as -5 or b5 or dim5 ... Example  C-5 , or C7(-5)
