Music Theory QuickThink:

-          Beat is the constant repeating pulse felt in music

-          The rate of the beat is called the tempo

-          Notes do not need to be sounding for the beat to be present

-          Beat division is the feel of how each beat divides into smaller units.  The first division is usual in either a feel of 2 or 3.  Further divisions of the beat are referred to as sub-divisions (divisions of the division)

-          Meter is arrangement of beats per measure, or bar, of music.
