-          Chromatic scales are made up of consecutive half steps.

-          Generally sharps are used to spell notes in an ascending chromatic scale (ex. C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, etc.

-          Generally flats are used to spell notes in a descending chromatic scale (ex. C, B, Bb, A, Ab, G, Gb, etc.)
